We also like to make important issues visible, which is why it is essential to dedicate a blog to LGBTQ+ pride this month, since June is Pride Month , or better known as PRIDE Month .
What is Pride Month?
Pride Month celebrates and promotes the self-affirmation, dignity, equality and greater visibility of LGBTQ+ people around the world. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is what drives this movement for LGBTQ+ rights.
The origin of this festive month is due to the Stonewall riots that took place at dawn on June 28, 1969 in the United States. The demonstrations arose after a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a bar in New York City frequented by the LGBTQ+ community. Back then, few establishments welcomed LGBTQ+ people in the 1950s and 1960s in the United States, and such places were considered illegal. These riots are considered the start of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States and around the world.
Therefore, the month of June is a month of remembrance, recognition, and celebration. You will always see a large number of multicolored flags, marches, parades, parties, concerts, and more events and celebrations in different cities around the world to celebrate PRIDE .
How can I support?
It is incredibly important to be open and welcoming to all members of the LGBTQ+ community in order to create a highly supportive environment where they feel respected, safe, and not discriminated against. To be a good ally, you have to be aware of the language you use, not assume anything from other people, not judge, and not rely on stereotypes.
